Story #1

George is a single father of two who had been working at the same manufacturing plant for five years when one day he received a notice that the company would be closing and moving overseas.  George decided to take immediate action because he knew that with just a high school diploma, it would be difficult to find a new job with good pay that would provide for his family. 

With nowhere to go and limited resources, George saw an ad for FIT in the Las Vegas Review Journal and decided to check it out.  He had some previous knowledge and understanding of heating and air conditioning because he had taken a few classes at the community college by his house when he was younger and was looking to complete training in that field.  After vocational testing confirmed that George had the interests, workplace values and aptitude to succeed in the Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditiong (HVAC) field, FIT provided him with a grant to cover most of his tuition and EPA certification exam.  George was able to obtain the funding he needed to cover the rest of his tuition from another agency FIT referred him to.    

George completed his training with an A average.  After a short job search, he was hired on as an HVAC Technician and is now earning $17.00 per hour, with benefits.
