New FIT Building

Welcome to the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, also known as FIT

For the past 11 years FIT has been serving the Las Vegas community by assisting unemployed and underemployed Nevadans on their way toward financial stability.

The FIT staff is committed to helping people who are unemployed or underemployed improve their situations by getting them training or by helping them get an initial or better job. Those of us at FIT want to help individuals get on the road to success and are willing to help address and combat barriers that may arise.

FIT’s clients are hard working, honest people who simply can’t earn enough to provide for their family without assistance. They are friends who were laid-off when their company was down-sized. They are family members who lost their primary provider. They are people who never give up hope despite adversity.

FIT’s program is one of very intensive, individualized help through two projects each of which provide clients with the long-term result of financial stability and self-sufficiency. By taking a holistic approach to address the needs of each client, FIT offers a unique opportunity for the motivated underemployed of southern Nevada to become productive, financially secure members of the workforce. The bottom-line is that FIT empowers clients into: Better Jobs. Brighter Futures.

FIT’s Initiatives and Accomplishments

  • In 2008, FIT had an average of 260 clients applications per quarter compared to 120 applications per quarter in 2007; this is more than 100% increase in applicants in a single year.  The flow of applications in 2009 is accelerating even further: we had 325 applications in the first quarter of 2000
  • In 2008, 80% of our applicants were unemployed and had no earned income at the time they were accepted and almost half were receiving public assistance. New clients who had an earned income on average earned $14,718.36 which is the minimum wage and cannot sustain a family.
